Maura Tierney and Courtney B. Vance Join Tom Hanks in Cast of LUCKY GUY

Emmy Award nominee Maura Tierney and two-time Tony Award nominee Courtney B. Vance have joined the cast of Lucky Guy on Broadway. Tierney will be making her Broadway debut, while Vance will be returning to Broadway for the first time in 20 years. The production stars two-time Academy Award-winner Tom Hanks, making his Broadway debut, in a new play by three-time Academy Award-nominee Nora Ephron and directed by two-time Tony Award-winner George C. Wolfe.

Nora Ephron's Lucky Guy marks a return to her journalistic roots in a new play about the scandal- and graffiti-ridden New York of the 1980s, as told through the story of the charismatic and controversial tabloid columnist Mike McAlary (Tom Hanks).

Acclaimed film, stage and television star Maura Tierney has been Emmy Award nominated for her performance in "ER" and has also starred in "Newsradio," "Rescue Me" and "The Good Wife". She will make her Broadway debut in Lucky Guy, playing the role of Mike McAlary's wife, Alice.

Two-time Tony Award nominee and Obie Award winner Courtney B. Vance returns to Broadway for the first time since starring in August Wilson's Fences and John Guare's Six Degrees of Separation. He will play the role of McAlary's editor, Hap Hairston.

Also starring in the 13-member cast will be Christopher McDonald as lawyer Eddie Hayes; Peter Gerety as editor John Cotter and Peter Scolari as columnist Michael Daly, with Michael Gaston as columnist Jim Dwyer; Dustyn Gulledge as Dino Tortoricci; Deirdre Lovejoy as reporter Louise Imerman and editor Debbie Krenek; Danny Mastrogiorgio as reporter Bob Drury; Richard Masur as editor Jerry Nachman and editor Stanley Joyce; and Stephen Tyrone Williams as Abner Louima.

LUCKY GUY will play a limited engagement at the Broadhurst Theatre (235 West 44th Street), with an opening night on April 1, 2013. Previews will begin March 1.

The production features scenic design by David Rockwell, costume design by Toni-Leslie James, sound design by Scott Lehrer and lighting design by Jules Fisher and Peggy Eisenhauer. Projection design is by batwin + robin productions. Casting is by Jordan Thaler/Heidi Griffiths. Technical supervisor is Peter Fulbright. Production stage manager is Jane Grey. General manager is 101 Productions.

LUCKY GUY will be produced on Broadway by Colin Callender, Roy Furman, Arielle Tepper Madover, Roger Berlind, Stacey Mindich, Robert Cole and Frederick Zollo, David Mirvish, Daryl Roth, James D. Stern/Douglas L. Meyer, Scott and Brian Zeilinger, in association with Sonia Friedman Productions and The Shubert Organization.

Maura Tierney (Alice McAlary) will make her Broadway debut in Lucky Guy. Her theatre credits include Neil LaBute's Some Girl(s) at the Lucille Lortel Theater, opposite Eric McCormack, Fran Drescher, Judy Reyes and Brooke Smith, Nicky Silver's Three Changes with Dylan McDermott, The Wooster Group's North Atlantic with Frances McDormand and Yasmina Reza's award winning God of Carnage at the prestigious Gate Theater in Dublin. Her television performances include her Emmy-nominated role on NBC's "ER," on which she starred for eight seasons, the critically acclaimed NBC series "Newsradio," in which she starred for four seasons, "Rescue Me" as the love interest of Dennis Leary's character and CBS's "The Good Wife," in which she plays the recurring role of Maddie. Courtney B. Vance (Hap Hairston) is so pleased to be back on Broadway and working with giants George C. Wolfe, Tom Hanks and the late, great Nora Ephron. Her spirit lives!!!! Courtney was honored with a Tony Award nomination, the Theater World Award and the Clarence Derwent Award for his Broadway debut performance in August Wilson's Pulitzer Prize-winning play Fences, starring James Earl Jones and directed by the late Lloyd Richards. Courtney also starred in John Guare's Six Degrees of Separation with the luminous Stockard Channing, directed by Jerry Zaks, for which he received his second Tony Award nomination. He was also the recipient of an Obie Award for his work in Athol Fugard's My Children! My Africa! At The Public Theater, Courtney also starred in Vaclav Havel's Temptation with David Strathairn and Romeo & Juliet, in which he played Mercutio. He and his wife returned to the stage at Minneapolis' renowned Guthrie Theater to star in John Guare's U.S. premiere of the stage adaptation of His Girl Friday and The Front Page.
Courtney's film & TV work include: CBS' "Extraordinary Measures," Hurricane Season, Final Destination 5, The Divide, The Preacher's Wife, Space Cowboys, Hamburger Hill, Huck Finn and The Hunt for Red October, ABC/Disney's "Flash Forward," Showtime's "Blind Faith" and "Twelve Angry Men" with the late George C. Scott & Jack Lemmon, August Wilson's "The Piano Lesson" for Hallmark, HBO's Emmy-nominated "The Tuskegee Airmen," TNT's "The Closer," NBC's "ER" (playing husband to his real life wife Angela Bassett) and NBC's long-running "Law & Order: Criminal Intent," in which he played asst. DA Ron Carver. Courtney, a native Detroiter, is an Ambassador the Boys & Girls Clubs of American and he and his wife are longtime members of Presiding Bishop Charles E. Blake's West Angeles Church of God in Christ. Courtney dedicates this performance to his mother, Leslie.
