MTC Announces Productions for 2005-06 Season

MANHATTAN THEATRE CLUB (Lynne Meadow, Artistic Director; Barry Grove, Executive Producer) is pleased to announce four of the productions for its 2005-2006 season, including two shows on Broadway at the Biltmore Theatre (261 West 47th Street) and two productions at MTC's Off-Broadway theatres at NY City Center (55th Street, between Sixth and Seventh Avenues).

MTC's 2005-2006 season of seven plays will include a world premiere play by David Lindsay-Abaire, and the New York premiere of a play by Nilo Cruz, as well as exciting new productions of plays by Lanford Wilson and Alan Ayckbourn.

TALLEY'S FOLLY

Cynthia Nixon heads the cast of the Pulitzer Prize-winning play by Lanford Wilson, author of Fifth of July and Burn This. A recent Emmy® Award-winner for her work on HBO's "Sex and the City," Ms. Nixon stars as Sally Talley, a plainspoken Missouri woman being romantically pursued by the persistent Matt Friedman. Set on the 4th of July in 1944, Talley's Folly follows these two unlikely lovers in their hesitant dance toward the impossible: true love. Directing is Doug Hughes, who staged MTC's acclaimed production of Doubt.

Three couples, three kitchens, three successive Christmas Eves: welcome to the world of Alan Ayckbourn's comedy of social class and marriage on the rocks. MTC Artistic Director Lynne Meadow, who staged MTC's Tony®-nominated hit, The Tale of the Allergist's Wife, helms this comedy by the prolific author of such MTC hits as House and Garden, Comic Potential and A Small Family Business.

BEAUTY OF THE FATHER NEW YORK PREMIERE

A young woman travels to Spain to visit her estranged father and quickly becomes immersed in his vibrant, artistic world. But will a charming Moroccan suitor stand in the way of their reconciliation? Beauty of the Father is the New York premiere of a new work by 2003 Pulitzer Prize winner Nilo Cruz (Anna in the Tropics). The production will be directed by Michael Greif (Rent, Cave Dwellers).

Under the leadership of Artistic Director Lynne Meadow and Executive Producer Barry Grove, MTC has become one of the country's most prominent and prestigious theatre companies. Renowned MTC productions include Doubt, Proof, The Tale of the Allergist's Wife, Yellowman, Kimberly Akimbo, Love! Valour! Compassion!; Sylvia; Four Dogs and a Bone; Putting It Together; Lips Together, Teeth Apart; Frankie and Johnny in the Clair de Lune; Crimes of the Heart; and Ain't Misbehavin'.
