Laura Kimpton's DREAM Sculpture Now on Display in Arlington, TX
DREAM, a 54-foot long metal sculpture by artist Laura Kimpton, was recently unveiled in Arlington, Texas. Acquired by the Downtown Arlington Management Corporation, the sculpture is the first piece in the city's new public art program. Temporarily located at 200 W. Abram Street, DREAM will eventually be moved to the Dream Park in downtown Arlington.
"DREAM is a perfect fit for our public art program," said Downtown Arlington Management Corporation (DAMC) President Tony Rutigliano. "Originally shown at Burning Man, the sculpture captures the essence of our city's identity - Arlington, The American Dream City. I'm certain that DREAM will enhance the visual identity of Arlington in a way that will be inspiring and enduring."
DREAM is the seventh word in Kimpton's Big Word Series and her first word sculpture installation in Texas. The letters are manufactured from heavy sheet-metal steel with cutouts of flying birds to create movement and make it lighter and more accessible to transport. Each letter is 12 feet tall by 8 to 10 feet wide and weighs between 1,000 and 1,500 pounds. At night, DREAM is programmed to light up from within in various colors controlled through LED lights. They can also be lit by external, up lights, which can also alter in color, making the installation flexible for different occasions and constantly changing.
