LET MEZALUCA BUY YOUR CAR Sets Performance Date With The Downtown Urban Arts Festival
The comedy will play for one performance on June 3 at the La MaMa Experimental Theatre Club.
The Downtown Urban Arts Festival (DUAF) has announced a production of Let Mezaluca Buy Your Car. Written by award-winning playwright Desi Moreno-Penson and directed by KM Jones.
The production takes a mundane domestic dispute and steers it into the surreal, featuring a cast that literally gives a voice to the inanimate. In this fast-paced sotry a bickering couple finds themselves in the aftermath of a car accident. While Caterina (Kathy Guerrero) blames the vehicle’s performance and Joey (Wilson Hernandez) blames Caterina’s relentless nagging, they are interrupted by a third party with a unique perspective: The Car (Jayson Kerr), who has quite a few opinions of his own.
Playwright Desi Moreno-Penson, a National Latinx Playwriting Award winner and O’Neill finalist, is recognized for her gritty and often paranormal Latinx narratives. Directing is KM Jones, a member of the League of Professional Theatre Women and an advocate for diverse, neurodivergent voices. The two previously collaborated on the acclaimed Dead Wives Dance the Mambo.
The performance will take place on June 3 at La Mama Experimental Theatre Club located at 66 East 4th Street, NYC. Tickets can be purchased at The Downtown Urban Arts Festival's website.
