L.A., San Francisco and Boston Have a Berlin-Style White Christmas

San Francisco, Los Angeles and Boston will each have a White Christmas this holiday season as the Irving Berlin musical plays in three separate productions in those cities.

"The musical tells the story of two showbiz buddies putting on a show in a picturesque Vermont inn, and finding their perfect mates in the bargain," according to press notes. White Christmas, which will feature a book by David Ives (All in the Timing) and Paul Blake in addition to classic Berlin songs, will boast direction by Tony Award-winner Walter Bobbie (Chicago) and choreography by Randy Skinner (42nd Street) in its three productions.

White Christmas is based on the beloved 1954 Paramount film that starred Bing Crosby, Rosemary Clooney, Danny Kaye and Vera-Ellen; the original screenplay was by Norman Krasna, Norman Panama, and Melvin Frank. Many Berlin classics are showcased in this new production, including "Count Your Blessings Instead of Sheep," " Sisters," "How Deep is the Ocean" and the title song.

The show will play the three cities at the following theatres and dates: San Francisco's Orpheum Theatre, from November 9th through December 31st; Los Angeles' Pantages Theatre from November 22nd through January 1st; and Boston's Wang Center for the Performing Arts from November 25th through December 31.

In San Francisco, the show will star Graham Rowat as Bob Wallace, Kate Baldwin as Betty Haynes, Mark Ledbetter as Phil Davis and Shannon O'Bryan as Judy Haynes. The same roles will be played in Los Angeles by brian d'Arcy James, Anastasia Barzee, Jeffry Denman and Meredith Patterson; Ruth Williamson and David Ogden Stiers will also be featured in that production. The cast of the Boston staging will be announced soon.

White Christmas will also feature sets by Anna Louizos (Avenue Q), costumes by Carrie Robbins (A Class Act), lighting design by Ken Billington (Annie), sound design by Acme Sound Partners (The Boy From Oz), orchestrations by Larry Blank, vocal and additional arrangements by Bruce Pomahac, and music direction by Rob Berman. White Christmas will be produced by The Producing Office, Paul Blake, Dan Markley, and Sonny Everett in association with Paramount Pictures.
