KILLER QUEEN Will Come to Theatre on the Bay
The Naledi Award-winning duo Anton Luitingh and Duane Alexander direct the Queen-inspired showcase
Killer Queen, the latest annual dance production from the Luitingh Alexander Musical Theatre Academy (LAMTA), will come to Theatre on the Bay from 4 June 2026.
Created by Naledi Award-winning LAMTA founders Anton Luitingh and Duane Alexander, the production celebrates the iconic music of Queen, weaving together powerful choreography, striking visuals and the undeniable energy of the music of one of the world's most beloved bands. Queen continues to resonate across generations and remains a global cultural phenomenon.
Following their recent success with Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat, co-produced with Pieter Toerien and which garnered multiple accolades at the recent Naledi Theatre Awards in Johannesburg, Luitingh and Alexander once again bring their signature theatrical flair to this much-anticipated showcase. LAMTA's annual dance productions have become a highlight on the performing arts calendar, consistently drawing sell-out audiences year after year. Previous productions, including Hollywood (2024) and Beyond (2025) sold out before opening night and Killer Queen is expected to follow suit.
The production, conceived & directed by Luitingh & Alexander, features a blue chip list of exceptional choreographers including Duane Alexander, Michelle Reid, Jared Schaedler, Robin van Wyk, Chesney Stanfield, Emile Petersen, Brandon Herbst, Ashley Searle, Brigitte Reeve-Taylor, Anna Olivier, Naoline Quinzin, and Zoe Aldridge Together, they bring a fresh and dynamic interpretation to Queen's legendary catalogue. In addition, Luitingh musically directs a few vocal numbers which has become a popular addition to LAMTA Dance Productions.
Audiences can expect a thrilling dance experience over 2 acts that showcases the talents of incredible LAMTA students, from first to third year. The production takes viewers on a journey through some of Queen's greatest hits and hidden gems, including ‘We Will Rock You', 'Somebody To Love', 'The Show Must Go On, and 'We Are the Champions,' reimagined through powerful and expressive movement.
Killer Queen runs from 4 to 20 June 2026 promises to lift the roof at Theatre on the Bay, delivering a high-energy celebration that is both nostalgic and exhilarating, making it the perfect winter warmer for theatre and dance lovers.
