Gingold Theatrical Group -- which made history last December as the first company ever to present every play (including full-length works, one-acts and sketches) written by George Bernard Shaw -- continues its fifth year of PROJECT SHAW with CANDIDA, Shaw's provocative romantic comedy about a minister and his wife whose marriage is threatened by a young poet, on Monday, September 27 at 7pm at The Players Club (16 Gramercy Park South) in Manhattan. David Staller produces and directs.
One of Shaw's most popular plays, CANDIDA makes its cast of characters jump through many hoops as they fight to discover who they want to be. Taking place in one action-packed day, Candida (Amy Irving) finds herself in the middle of a battle. Swirling around Candida are her husband Reverend Morell (Richard Thomas); the noble young poet Eugene Marchbanks (Bobby Steggert); her ambitious, capitalist father Mr. Burgess (Nick Wyman); the repressed secretary Prossy (Cassie Beck); and Morell's young assistant Lexy (Cary Donaldson). Oscar-nominee Amy Irving, most recently seen on Broadway in THE COAST OF UTOPIA, stars as Candida. Joining Ms. Irving in the ensemble are Richard Thomas (RACE), Bobby Steggert (RAGTIME, YANK!), Nick Wyman (A TALE OF TWO CITIES, SLY FOX), Cassie Beck (THE NORMAN CONQUESTS) and Cary Donaldson (Shakespeare in the Park's THE MERCHANT OF VENICE). Jason Zinoman of the New York Times will be the evening's guest host, and Patrick Pacheco of NY1's On Stage will narrate.
Tickets to PROJECT SHAW: CANDIDA on Monday, September 27 at 7pm at The Players Club (16 Gramercy Park South) are $25.
