History Boys Stars Featured in New York Times Magazine

The eight young actors playing the titular boys in Alan Bennett's Tony Award winning The History Boys on Broadway will be featured in this Sunday's New York Times Magazine. 

Cast members Samuel Anderson, Samuel Barnett, Dominic Cooper, James Corden, Sacha Dhawan, Andrew Knott, Jamie Parker and Russell Tovey appear in an eight page spread, sporting fall fashions.  The article, "Fashion Majors," will be featured in the Sunday, July 30 edition of The New York Times Magazine.

The History Boys won six Tony Awards®  including Best Play (Alan Bennett), Best Director of a Play (Nicholas Hytner), Best Leading Actor in a Play (Richard Griffiths), Best Scenic Design of a Play (Bob Crowley) and Best Lighting Design of a Play (Mark Henderson).   The production won the most Tony Awards of any show this season, and tied the record for most Tony Award wins for a play, set by the original production of Death of a Salesman in 1949.

The play also won all of the major New York and London Awards, including the New York Drama Critics' Circle, Drama Desk, Outer Critics Circle, Drama League, Olivier, Evening Standard and London Critics' Circle Awards for Best Play.

The production, directed by Nicholas Hytner, originally premiered at The National Theatre of Great Britain on May 18, 2004, where it quickly became a sell-out smash hit.  The History Boys is Bennett's first Broadway play in 30 years, since Habeas Corpus in 1975.

The show "is the thrilling comedy of eight bright, funny students trying to get into colleges and the year that influenced the rest of their lives.  Guiding them are a maverick English teacher, a headmaster obsessed with results and a strong-willed history teacher resistant to change.  A very funny and deeply moving play, The History Boys is about staff-room rivalry, adolescent anarchy and the role of education in our lives," according to press notes.

The producers are Boyett Ostar Productions, Roger Berlind, Debra Black, Eric Falkenstein, Roy Furman, JAM Theatricals, Stephanie P. McClelland, Judith Resnick, Scott Rudin, Jon Avnet/Ralph Guild, Dede Harris/Mort Swinksy, and The National Theatre of Great Britain.
