HB Studio Announces HB ON FILM Event Next Month

HB Studio, one of New York's most esteemed institutions for theater training and practice, will celebrate generations of HB talent and friends on the silver screen. Featuring HB founders Uta Hagen and Herbert Berghof, as well as performances by HB faculty, artists, alumni and friends, including Robert Duvall, Olga Bellin, Horton Foote, Marsha Mason, Eli Wallach, and Amanda Quaid.

All tickets are fully tax-deductible donations to HB Studio, and will help support HB's training and development programs from aspiring and professional theater artists. Learn the history of each films' importance to HB Studio, and enjoy timeless performances by HB friends, faculty, and alumni.

TUESDAY MAY 2

CLEOPATRA - This epic 1963 classic stars Elizabeth Taylor as the legendary Egyptian queen whose romance with Roman general Marc Antony (Richard Burton) gambles the fate of an empire. WEDNESDAY MAY 3

TOMORROW - Based on a short story by William Faulkner, this cinematic masterpiece is a haunting, emotional tale about a man's ability to love. Featuring HB friends and alumni Robert Duval and Olga Bellin, the screenplay is written by HB Playwrights Foundation alumnus Horton Foote (To Kill a Mockingbird, Tender Mercies). THE OTHER - Something's strange about twin boys on a 1930s Connecticut farm. In one of her rare film performances, HB founder Uta Hagen stars as the boys' loving grandmother Ada, who faces off with the forces of good and evil in this classic psychological thriller. FRIDAY MAY 5
CINDERELLA LIBERTY - A lonely Navy sailor "wins" a charismatic hooker after a game of pool in a steamy Seattle bar. An unexpected love story, James Caan and Marsha Mason's moving performances earned critical acclaim and earned HB faculty member Marsha Mason her first Golden Globe win and Academy Award nomination for Best Actress in 1974. SATURDAY MAY 6
TOYS- In 1930s farm country, a father wants a son, but he gets a little girl. He tries to toughen her up by giving her toys intended for boys. His efforts backfire when she proves a little too capable for comfort. A charming stop-motion animated short made entirely by hand using paper dolls, cutout photographs, and vintage paper. Directed by HB alumnae and faculty member Amanda Quaid.

ENGLISH - Alenka is a Polish housekeeper living in Queens, NY. As she tries to give her young son a better life in America, his quick assimilation threatens to leave her behind. ONE ARMED MAN - In HB alumnus and Oscar-winning writer Horton Foote's chilling drama, One Armed Man, a wealthy cotton gin executive is confronted by a disgruntled former employee demanding the return of an arm lost in the gin's machinery.
