HAMILTON Behind-the-Scenes Book Will Hit Shelves Next Spring; Pre-Order Today!

As previously reported, Lin-Manuel Miranda's latest musical Hamilton, now playing to packed houses at the Richard Rodgers Theater, is getting its own life in print via Grand Central Publishing. The behind-the-scenes book has set a release date for April 12, 2016 with an option to preorder now! It will be available in both hardcover (224 pages) and ebook format.

Ben Greenberg, Executive Editor at GCP, acquired the North American rights from Hamilton producer Jeffrey Seller and Andy McNicol at William Morris Endeavor. The book will be produced by Melcher Media, creators of other successful Broadway books such as WICKED: THE GRIMMERIE and RENT.

Of the book, Lin-Manuel Miranda said: "When I fall in love with a musical, I want to know everything about it. I remember RENT changing my life on my 17th birthday and being so grateful for the RENT book, which so beautifully brought the story behind Jonathan Larson's musical to life. As an adult, Sondheim's books on lyrics have proven an invaluable asset on the art of lyric writing from one of our greatest creators. Our goal here is to take you INSIDE Hamilton: not just the timeline of its creation, but the thought process, historical considerations, and artistic decisions that went into my lyrics, from beginning to end. I want you to know everything about it."

HAMILTON has book, music and lyrics by Tony and Grammy Award-winning composer Miranda, who also plays the title role. The musical is directed by Thomas Kail, with choreography by Andy Blankenbuehler and music direction and orchestrations by Alex Lacamoire. Hamilton is inspired by Ron Chernow's biography "Alexander Hamilton."

The show transferred to Broadway following a sold-out run at The Public Theater in NYC, is the acclaimed new musical about the scrappy young immigrant Alexander Hamilton, the $10 Founding Father who forever changed America with his revolutionary ideas and actions. During his life cut too short, he served as George Washington's chief aide, was the first Treasury Secretary, a loving husband and father, despised by his fellowFounding Fathers and shot to death by Aaron Burr in their legendary duel.

Miranda is the Tony- and Grammy award-winning composer-lyricist-star of IN THE HEIGHTS, which received four 2008 Tony Awards (including Best Musical, Best Orchestrations, and Best Choreography), with Miranda receiving a Tony Award for Best Score, as well as a nomination for Best Leading Actor in a Musical. IN THE HEIGHTS was also recognized as a Finalist for the 2009 Pulitzer Prize in Drama. Miranda is the co-composer (with Tom Kitt), and co-lyricist (with Amanda Green) of Broadway's BRING IT ON: THE MUSICAL. Miranda contributed new songs to the revival of Stephen Schwartz's WORKING and provided Spanish translations for the 2009 Broadway revival of WEST SIDE STORY. Miranda, along with Kitt, won the 2014 Creative Arts Emmy for Best Original Music and Lyrics for their work on the 67th Annual Tony Awards. As an actor, Miranda appeared in the City Center Encores! productions of MERRILY WE ROLL ALONG and tick, tick... BOOM! His TV and film credits include The Electric Company, Sesame Street, The Sopranos, House, Modern Family, Do No Harm, Smash, How I Met Your Mother, Sex and the City: The Movie, The Odd Life of Timothy Green, and 200 Cartas.
