Galt MacDermot, whose musical Hair revolutionized Broadway with its rock score and sexual frankness, will once again tread risqué territory with his new musical Goddess Wheel, an adaptation of Lysistrata. Presented by Collaborative Arts Project 21 (CAP 21), the new show will premiere at CAP 21's The Shop (18 W. 18th St.), where it will run from November 30th through December 10th.

With music by MacDermot and book and lyrics by Matty Selman, the show "is a new musical loosely based on Aristophanes' 2,400 year old anti-war play, Lysistrata," state press notes. In Lysistrata, the women of Greece attempt to put a close to the Peloponnesian War by withholding sex from their soldier husbands.

Goddess Wheel will feature in its cast Ethan Angelica, Ryan Bates, Liza Baron, Kaitlyn Bradley, Melissa Briggs, Jordan Brodsky, Madison Cano, Andrew DiConcetto, Kelly Felthous, Kate Ferber, Joanna Flamm, Zoe Friedman, Mike Gaetano, Amanda Guillett, Michelle Hernandez, Timothy Hughes, Ben Kaplan, Ryan LaMont, Nicole Laurenzi, Colin McAdoo, Adam Mosebach, Jenna Noel, Stefanie O'Connell, Kevin Santos, Meghan Starr, Dana Steingold, Sara Wolski and Ryan Worsing. The musical is directed and choreographed by Frank Ventura.

The show will also feature production design by Lex Liang, stage design by Aaron C. Smythe and musical direction by Jared Stein, among others.

MacDermot's Hair, written with Gerome Ragni and James Rado and originally produced by the Public Theater, ran for 1,750 performances after opening at the Biltmore Theatre on April 29th, 1968. The musical, which was billed as "The American Tribal Love Rock Musical," was the musical theatre expression of a generation of hippies, and also ushered in a new era of rock musicals on Broadway. Two Gentlemen of Verona, a multi-ethnic urban musical adaptation of the Shakespeare play, was another hit at the Public. MacDermot's other Broadway musicals, however, were less successful--they include Dude, Via Galactica and The Human Comedy.

Goddess Wheel's performance schedule is: Wednesday through Saturday evenings at 8 PM with matinees on Saturdays and Sundays at 3 PM.

Tickets, which are $15, can be purchased by calling (866) 811-4111; visit www.cap21.org for more information.
