The New York Times is reporting that the producers of Broadway's GOD OF CARNAGE have opted not to pursue a National Tour at the moment, fearing that a tour would not run long enough to make the endeavor financially beneficial. Producers, who had been doing the initial legwork for a tour for several months and had even gotten some commitments from actors, anticipate that a tour would need to run at least 26 weeks to recoup, and not enough theaters signed onto the tour in the 2010-2011 season to guarantee they would hit this mark.

Instead, the producers will license the show to regional theaters once the production closes on Broadway.  While an executive attached to the production says that a tour could happen in the future, it will not mount this fall.

On Broadway, GOD OF CARNAGE currently stars Dylan Baker (Mauritius) as ‘Alan,' original Broadway cast member and Tony nominee Jeff Daniels as ‘Michael,' Emmy nominee Lucy Liu (Charlie's Angels) as ‘Annette,' and Tony winner Janet McTeer (original cast member of West End production of God of Carnage) as ‘Veronica.' GOD OF CARNAGE plays at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre.

After receiving rave reviews in London, GOD OF CARNAGE opened on Broadway March 22, 2009 to unanimous praise.

Jeff Daniels originated the role of ‘Alan' in the original Broadway production of GOD OF CARNAGE, for which he received a Tony nomination. In a rare casting twist, he will return to the show to play the role of ‘Michael.'

Janet McTeer created the role of ‘Veronica' in the London premiere of the play. Ms. McTeer is appearing with the support of Actors' Equity Association. The producers gratefully acknowledge Actors' Equity Association for its assistance of this production.

The Yasmina Reza comedy won the Tony Award for Best Play and Best Direction of a Play (Matthew Warchus). GOD OF CARNAGE also won the 2009 Olivier Award for Best New Comedy.

GOD OF CARNAGE is a comedy of manners without the manners. The play deals with the aftermath of a playground altercation between two boys and what happens when their parents meet to talk about it.

GOD OF CARNAGE reunites the creative team that staged the Tony Award-winning Best Play, Art. Designed by Mark Thompson (sets and costumes), with lighting by Hugh Vanstone, sound by Simon Baker & Chris Cronin, the play has music by Gary Yershon.
