The first glimpse of Broadway/Hollywood crossover superstar Scarlett Johansson onset of the upcoming franchise sequel to the recent superhero-themed movie mega-hits THE AVENGERS and CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER has at last been revealed.

In CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER, Johansson once again portrays Black Widow (aka Natalie Romanova), who joins with Captain America (aka Steve Rogers, played by Chris Evans) to take on a new super-villain, this time in Washington, D.C..

Recent Broadway PICNIC notable Sebastian Stan joins the franchise in this new installment as James "Bucky" Barnes, who becomes the dangerous assassin of the title.

In the new shots captured onset, Johansson (with a stylish new red-hued hairdo) and a pumped-up Evans work with wire in preparation for a sequence set in an industrial enclosure, carrying on animatedly in conversation all the while.

Johansson previously appeared as Black Widow in IRON MAN 2 and THE AVENGERS. Reportedly, Marvel is also planning to present a Black Widow-based entry in the franchise in the near future to showcase the versatile star of stage and screen.

First things first, though - CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER is scheduled to be released a year from now, April 4, 2014. Then, after that? THE AVENGERS 2, of course!

CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER is directed by Anthony and Joe Russo from a screenplay by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely. In addition to Evans, Johansson and Stan, the film also features Anthony Mackie, Cobie Smulders, Samuel L. Jackson and Robert Redford.
