The Edinburgh Fringe Festival will host China's first English language musical, REEL TO REAL, The Stage reports.  The show combines classic film footage from Hollywood and footage from Chinese films with live actors and features classic songs by such composers as Stephen Sondheim, Frank Loesser, and Irving Berlin

Executive producer Broadway Asia International's Simone Genatt Haft told The Stage,"It's a merging of film footage with the live actors. So, Humphrey Bogart as Rick in Casablanca is the second love interest and his dialogue is integrated with the live dialogue. Gene Kelly and our lead actor do a duet for Singing in the Rain. I don't believe anything like this has been seen before, anywhere.

"It's a very, very famous score and I think it's one of the first times, if not the first time, that composers of this echelon have allowed their music to be mixed together in a story-telling format."

REEL TO REAL, created last year, tells the story of a pair of twins travelling while taking on their father's movie business. The show will run at Edinburgh's Pleasance Grand from August 4 to August 30.  Visit www.edfringe.com for more information.
