EDINBURGH 2026: Review: FORGET ABOUT ME, Pleasance
Forget About Me runs at Edfringe until 31 August

Forget About Me is a theatrical production from Despite the Monkey and Worklight Theatre. It is performed, designed and co-written by Dylan Howells and co-written and directed by Harry Machray.
Set in a small village in the North-East of England, this is a ghost story from when Dylan was ten years old. He assures us that this is a slow-burn kind of ghost story rather than jump scares. Let me tell you, Dylan is a liar. The scares are good-natured though, and I say that as someone with a nervous disposition.
Dylan’s dad has bought a house that’s a definite fixer-upper. He’s a dab hand at DIY and plans to renovate the house himself but there’s something unsettling going on in the bathroom. Is it the pipes? Is it the overactive imagination of a ten-year-old boy? Or is it something more sinister…
Between Howells and his show tech Joe Sellman-Leava, they manage to create an extremely atmospheric show. The dynamic between the two is excellent and they work brilliantly together, which really adds something to the show.
There’s a little bit of faffing in the setup for the actual spooky stuff but it all becomes clear later why it was necessary. There are a few bits of sleight of hand and illusion which work brilliantly and add to the mystery of it all.
Forget About Me is a fantastic spooky offering with some really great storytelling that will sit with you long after the show finishes.
