Doubt Breaks Walter Kerr Record for Fourth Time

For the fourth time and the third consecutive week, Doubt has broken the Walter Kerr Theatre house record. The show raked in $512,001 for the week of May 23-29--outstanding numbers for a straight drama.Doubt, directed by John Patrick Shanley, recently won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama. The play, which stars Bryan F. O'Byrne and Cherry Jones, is nominated for 8 Tonys, including Best Play and Best Director for Doug Hughes. In addition, the play has received the New York Drama Critics Circle Award for Best Play
of the Year, the Drama League Award for Distinguished Play, four Outer Critics
Circle Awards, including Best Play and four Lucille Lortel Awards, including
Best Play.Set against the backdrop of a Bronx Catholic school in 1964, Doubt
is the story of a strong-minded woman faced with a difficult decision. Should
she voice concerns about one of her male colleagues
even if she's not entirely
certain of the truth?In addition to O'Byrne as the suspicious Father Flynn and Jones as Sister Aloysius, Doubt's cast includes Heather Goldenhersh as Sister James and Adriane Lenox as Mrs. Muller.
Doubt features set design by John Lee Beatty, costume design by
Catherine Zuber, lighting design by Pat Collins, and original music
and sound design by David Van Tieghem. Doubt is produced
by Carole Shorenstein Hays, MTC Productions Inc. (Lynne Meadow, Artistic
Director; Barry Grove, Executive Producer), Roger Berlind and Scott
Rudin.
The performance schedule is Tuesday through Saturday at 8:00 PM, with matinees on Wednesday and Saturday at 2:00 PM, and Sunday at 3:00 PM.
