David Yazbek To Play Benefit At Riverspace 5/22

By: Apr. 15, 2008

Known for his thrilling live performances and irreverent style, recording artist, vocalist, pianist and Rockland resident David Yazbek will bring the house down at Riverspace on Thursday, May 22 at 8:00 p.m.

The Benefit concert -- for Riverspace and Riverkeeper -- will feature songs from Yazbek's acclaimed pop/rock CD, 'Evil Monkey Man', which has been universally praised for its "remarkably well-crafted images" and "dark, often troubling" songs. When Yazbek presented the material at Lincoln Center a few weeks ago, The New York Times called the show "A Woozy Thrill Ride on a Volcano's Edge," and raved: "The songwriter David Yazbek is a daredevil juggler catching spiked pins in the traveling carnival of his imagination."

Joining David Yazbek will be his long-time band, His Warmest Regards, Special Guests singer-songwriter Nellie McKay and Tony, Drama Desk and Outer Critics Award winning actor Norbert Leo Butz, star of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Wicked and Rent plus other surprise appearances.

Yazbek's first album, The Laughing Man, won the N.A.I.R.D. Award for Best Pop Album of the Year. He is also a Grammy-nominated record producer and an Emmy-Award winning TV writer for Late Night with David Letterman. In 2000, Yazbek made his debut as a Broadway songwriter with The Full Monty. For his score, Yazbek was honored with a Tony Award nomination for Best Score and won a Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Music. In 2005, he ventured back to Broadway with the highly successful Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. Both of these have played in over 20 countries.
A great opportunity to support the arts and the environment while enjoying a fabulous concert.
