DIG to Play MITF

IRTE: The Improvisational Repertory Theatre Ensemble invites you to a major archaeological discovery that is about to be unearthed. Will it be something amazing or something that should have remained hidden forever? Join us at the dig site to find out in this improvised adventure as we discover what lies buried below.

Be careful what you dig for.?

Meet the Improv'd Indiana Jones in DIG, a new comedy from the Improvisational Repertory Theatre Ensemble (IRTE) that lets the audience determine the details of a daring adventure tale. Set just prior to the unearthing of a major archaeological discovery, this stylized homage to serial treasure hunters and pulp fiction action heroes takes you deep into the dig site as its plucky heroes embark on an underground exploration. They'll square off against all manner of baddies, cursed artifacts and even a love interest or two along the way, but the specifics of those encounters will be up to the audience. Mixing a loose narrative structure with the unpredictability of improv, Dig brings thrilling old-timey adventure to the Midtown International Theatre Festival.

While the skyline currently glitters with theatre festivals, there was a time when the Midtown International Theatre Festival was one of only two! John Chatterton has helped set the gold standard for presenting new and exciting independent theatrical works in New York. This year - with a booming variety section, a prominently-placed Short Play Lab, a burgeoning Short Film Lab, nearly 60 productions - with a record number of musical presentations (including an opera) - as well as an astounding number of international works, the 17th Annual Midtown International Theatre Festival once again proves itself to be one of the best reasons to stay in New York in July!
