Butley, Starring Lane, Begins Final Week of Performances

Butley, starring Nathan Lane, begins its final week of performances tonight and ends its limited Broadway engagement at the Booth Theatre (222 West 45th Street) on Sunday January 14th after 21 previews and 94 performances.   Directed by Nicholas Martin, the 14-week limited run began previews on October 5 and opened on October 25.  The producers recently announced that the production had recouped its capitalization. 

 

In addition to Lane, the play stars Julian Ovenden, Dana Ivey, Pamela GrayRoderick Hill, Darren Pettie and Jessica Stone. It is produced by Elizabeth Ireland McCann, Stephanie  P.  McClelland, Eric Falkenstein, Debra Black, Chase Mishkin, Barbara Manocherian/Larry Hirschhorn, Barbara Freitag and Jeffrey Sine/Frederick Zollo.

 

Butley is "Simon Gray's devastating and funny play about a college professor who faces losing his wife and his lover in one day. Armed with a cigarette in one hand and a bottle of Scotch in the other, Ben Butley puts his acid wit to work as he fights a last-ditch battle for their affection and for his own sanity," press notes state.

The design team is: Alexander Dodge (set), Ann Roth (costumes), David Weiner (lighting) and John Gromada (sound).

The playing schedule is: Tuesday at 7pm; Wednesday - Saturday at 8pm; Wednesday & Saturday at 2pm; Sunday at 3pm.
