Burma Relief, a nonprofit organization that helps impoverished Burmese children will host Burma Relief party at New York's Friar's Club on Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2012.

A celebration of Burmese culture, with authentic Burmese food and drink – and an electrifying dance performance by Burmese virtuoso Lay Naing Ei – the gala hopes to raise enough to build a 3,000 square foot dormitory for 60 refugee children who escaped Burma where they would likely have become child soldiers or sex slaves under the country's repressive military regime.

Burma Relief will give these children a safe place to go - providing them with desperately needed shelter and food, instead of living on the streets, facing crime and disease. Recently, a dormitory for 60 refugee Burmese girls was built on Thailand's border, with funds that Burma Relief raised at at The New Blood School with funds raised by the Burma Relief in March 2011.

"It is so important to put a roof over these kids' heads and food in their stomachs," says Jeremy Taylor, Executive Director of Burma Relief. "If we can educate and house this generation, then the future for Burma will be much brighter."

Tickets are $100 but half price for MAC members.
