The Associated Press is reporting that Brooke Shields, who is currently starring in the London production of Chicago as Roxie Hart will make her Broadway return in the same role. Shields, who recently extended her run in London through July 30th, is set to join the Broadway company of the show on September 9th.

The statuesque Shields, who got her start in modelling and film, has been a Broadway presence in recent years--getting her feet wet as Rizzo in Grease, as Sally in Cabaret, and as Donna Murphy's successor in Wonderful Town, for which she received glowing reviews. On film, she has appeared in Pretty Baby (her controversial breakout role), Just You and Me, Kid, Brenda Starr, Blue Lagoon and The Bachelor, as well as having starred on the TV series "Suddenly Susan" for several years; she earned two Golden Globe nominations for her performance on the sitcom. She made her professional theatre debut in a 1986 off-Broadway production of Marguerite Duras' The Eden Cinema.

In Chicago, Velma Kelly is the most famous murderess in the town of Chicago. Roxie Hart is a chorus girl who becomes famous for killing her lover. Roxie's savvy lawyer creates a "Razzle Dazzle" trial that manipulates the media and makes Roxie a star. She then teams up with Velma to become singing sensations on the Vaudeville stage. Chicago is the winner of six 1997 Tony Awards including Best Musical Revival.
