Fresh off her recent concerts at 54 Below, Jennifer Damiano has starred in NEXT TO NORMAL (Tony Award nomination), SPIDER-MAN: TURN OFF THE DARK (original Mary Jane Watson), SPRING AWAKENING (original cast, age 15), and most recently originated the role of Jean in AMERICAN PSYCHO. Off-Broadway: VENICE at The Public Theater, NEXT TO NORMAL at Second Stage and Arena Stage in DC (Helen Hayes Award nomination). Fernando Dente is a renowned actor in Argentina. He played the role of Henry in the Argentinian version of NEXT TO NORMAL (CASI NORMALES). He has starred in SPRING AWAKENING, HAIRSPRAY, SWEENEY TODD, MUSICOOL, PETER PAN, and also part of the cast of SOUND OF MUSIC, FUERZA BRUTA, SWING TIME and DERECHOS TORCIDOS, among many others. He has received a Clarin Award for HAIRSPRAY and Hugo for Best Actor for SPRING AWAKENING. He has also directed the Argentinian version of EMOTIONAL CREATURE, to rave reviews.
NEXT TO CASI NORMALES will feature Tony winner Alice Ripley (AMERICAN PSYCHO, SIDESHOW, ROCKY HORROR SHOW), Tony Nominated actress Josefina Scaglione who starred in WEST SIDE STORY (Maria), Guido Balzaretti (Marius in the Spanish production of Les Miserables), Matías Mayer (Gabe in CASI NORMALES), Mariano Chiesa (Dr. Madden in CASI NORMALES) and guest star, Nacha Guevara.
NEXT TO NORMAL is a rock musical with book and lyrics by Brian Yorkey and music by Tom Kitt. Its story concerns a mother who struggles with worsening bipolar disorder and the effect that her illness has on her family. The musical also addresses such issues as grieving a loss, suicide, drug abuse, ethics in modern psychiatry, and suburban life.
It was nominated for eleven 2009 Tony Awards and won three, Best Original Score, Best Orchestration and Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Musical for Alice Ripley. It also won the 2010 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, becoming just the eighth musical in history to receive the honor.
