BWW Interviews: Evan Bergman Directs A VIEW of the MOUNTAINS at NJ Rep

By:

A View of the Mountains will run at New Jersey Repertory Company (NJ Rep) from April 24th through May 25th. The play explores how the current extreme political polarization in our society has come home to roost and threatens not only our nation but the intimate ties that bind families. Written by Lee Blessing, the show is directed by Evan Bergman. Broadwayworld.com had an opportunity to interview Bergman during this busy time before the opening at the Long Branch theatre.

Bergman brings a great deal of directing experience to the production. Most recently, he directed the premiere of Jack Canfora's, Poetic License featuring Geraint Wyn Davies at both NJ Rep and The Directors Company at 59E59. His credits include impressive Off-Broadway productions, regional theatre and work in film.

Bergman is a resident of New York City. He is glad to be working once again at NJ Rep. Bergman said, "Both Suzanne and Gabor Barabas, the artistic and executive directors of the theater, are extremely smart and supportive. They also always provide the best production values to for their shows." He feels that is an ideal place for the World Premiere of A View of the Mountains.

When asked about his cast and the creative team. Bergman stated, "My cast includes two actors who I have had the pleasure of working with on other projects. Eva Kaminsky is one of my favorite actresses. She is always inventive and has impeccable timing. John Little and I also have a long standing relationship. John was in the World Premiere of my production of Poetic License by Jack Canfora a few seasons ago. Katrina Ferguson and Michael Zlabinger are terrific. I have always been a fan of their work and am lucky to be able to finally work with them both."

And Bergman stated a bit about his directing style. He said, "I try to be truthful."

Bergman believes that audiences will truly appreciate A View of the Mountains. He stated, "One of the play's central themes deals with family interest versus national interest. Whenever you have family in the same room with politics, one must always be prepared for fireworks."

A View of the Mountains at New Jersey Repertory Company in Long Branch is showing from April 24th through May 25th on Thursdays and Fridays at 8pm; Saturdays at 3pm & 8pm; Sundays at 2pm and selected Sundays at 7pm from April 24th to May 25th. For tickets call 732-229-3166 or visit www.njrep.org.
