BWW Blog: Thoughts on THE PARISIAN WOMAN

Many celebrities have been going to Broadway. Be it a new "trend" or now Broadway is in the now thanks to shows like Hamilton or Kinky Boots.

Uma Thurman is another celebrity who joins a cast! The show? The Parisian Woman written expertly by Beau Willimon and directed by Pam MacKinnon.

The play centers around Chloe a rich socialite, who has powerful friends and some dark secrets surrounding her past, present and even her future. The play also has a strong theme of politics and taking stands on whose side you're on.

While politics are sticky situations and a touchy subject within the world, even in the world of entertainment, the play does a very good job of discussing it without getting really into it. It never once becomes a satire of recent events nor is it one big joke. It's a real and serious show about the choices we make and how it can effect us in the long run.

The play is well cast with Josh Lucas ("Sweet Home Alabama," The Glass Menagerie) as Tom, Chloe's husband who is trying to dive deeper into a political career. Blair Brown (Copenhagen) as Jeanette, Chloe's friend who is a powerful force within the President's posse, Phillipa Soo (Hamilton) as Rebecca, daughter of Jeanette and a thriving potential Politician, Marton Csokas ("The Lord Of the Rings") as Peter, Chloe's lover. And of course Uma Thurman as Chloe, the center character of the play.

Each actor has a chance to shine as their character and no character is short on good moments and great scenes. Thurman shines with each scene she has playing the cunning and brave yet caring and even a little scared woman who just wants to see her husband succeed while she finds a place for herself in the political world as the wife of someone in the business. Soo also shines as a determined woman yet confused as to what she truly wants. I was lucky enough to win the lottery and catch the show with my good friend Rihanna Brown. We both loved the show!

I also realized that this show is a good conversation starter for people of college age. This show is mostly being seen by the older crowd but I assure you that this show is for everyone! I really encourage everyone to go see this wonderful show! The show will sadly close on March 11th 2018 and now is the time!

So when you get a chance go see The Parisian Woman!
