BAX / Brooklyn Arts Exchange Announces LIGHT Featuring AcroBAX Workshop

By: Jan. 18, 2012

BAX / Brooklyn Arts Exchange today announced LIGHT, a culminating performance featuring AcroBAX Workshop student choreography.

PERFORMING WORKSHOPS at BAX are full-year programs intended for motivated young people (ages 9-17) who are ready to commit to comprehensive study.

NEW THIS SEASON! The AcroBAX Workshop, taught by Helen Styring Tocci, is our most advanced tumbling class.

Steeped in the traditions of circus and deeply influenced by gymnastics, CircusYoga, and modern dance, the workshop is intended to build strength and teach tumbling and acrobatic dance skills to an ensemble of committed and experienced young performers ages 9-12. They use a wide array of skills: tumbling, cartwheels, handstands, headstands, arm balances, extensive partnering, backbends and walkovers as well as circus skills to build expressive work together as an ensemble.

This season's AcroBAXers are focused on exploring "Light." The dancers have created an exciting array of choreography, costumes and lighting design. In their dances they explore how light relates to their world. Some of their choreographic themes include: sparks, electricity, shadows, reflection/refraction, lightening, and the eclipse.

Audiences can expect individual and group collaborations by the students that feature exciting partner acrobatics, energetic tumbling, and lots of physical challenge combined with a deeply-felt exploration of their theme using modern dance technique and compositional skills.

Saturday, March 3, 2012 @ 4:00pm

Tickets: $5 [Buy Tickets]

Director, Helen Styring Tocci
