The Bergen Youth Orchestra, conducted by Eugene Minor, presents Tony Award-winning composer Jason Robert Brown's musical "Songs for a New World" in a concert performance with the 90-piece BYO Symphony and JRB and the Caucasian Rhythm Kings, performing new orchestrations by the composer.  The performance will take place on Sunday, May 1, 2005 at 4:00 pm at Symphony Space in New York City at 95th Street and Broadway.   Proceeds from the concert will benefit the Bergen Youth Orchestras.

Mr. Brown, who played with the BYO Symphony when he was fifteen years old, says, "When Gene [Minor] came to me about organizing a benefit for the BYO, I jumped on board for two reasons: first, I wanted to support the work that this orchestra does – when I was in high school, the BYO was a lifeline for me; and secondly, I thought it would be a great opportunity to celebrate the 10th anniversary of 'Songs for a New World' opening in New York at the WPA Theatre."  (The recording of the 1995 production of "Songs for a New World" is available on BMG Records.)

The all-star cast (subject to change) features members of the original 1995 cast: Jessica Molaskey (PS Classics recording artist), Andrea Burns (Beauty and the Beast, Full Monty), and Brooks Ashmanskas (The Producers, Gypsy); as well as Tony Award-winners Michael Cerveris (Assassins, The Who's
Tommy), and Michele Pawk (Hollywood Arms, Cabaret); Tony Award nominees brian d'Arcy James (Sweet Smell of Success, Titanic), Emily Skinner (Side Show, The Full Monty) and John Tartaglia (Avenue Q); and Michael Arden (bare, Pippin in Concert), Lawrence Clayton (Dreamgirls, The Civil War), Darius DeHaas (Day Dream:Variations on Strayhorn on PS Classics, Rent, Marie Christine), Kristine Fraelich (The Civil War), Keith Byron Kirk (A New Brain, Parade), Beth Leavel (42nd Street, Show Boat), Anthony Manough (The Lion King), Jennifer Prescott (Carousel, How to Succeed), Miriam Shor (Hedwig and the Angry Inch).

Concert direction by Lisa Leguillou, casting by Mark Simon, produced by Andrew Kato, music coordination by Thomas Murray, production coordination by Joel Fram, stage management by David Foster.  For tickets and more information, please call Symphony Space at (212) 864-5600 or visit www.symphonyspace.org.
