Ansambl Mastika Performs At The Jewish Museum's SUMMERNIGHTS SERIES 7/8

By: Jun. 15, 2010

Tickets are still available for the Thursday, July 8 at 7:30 pm concert by Ansambl Mastika, one of New York's best Balkan bands, drawing from the music of Eastern Europe, the Mediterranean basin and the Middle East. The July 8 performance is part of The Jewish Museum's popular SummerNights series.

This year, the SummerNights series features three bands: July 1: Margot Leverett and the Klezmer Mountain Boys; July 8: Anambl Mastika; and July 15: The Sexteto Rodriguez Cuban-Jewish All Stars. The July 1 and July 15 concerts are sold out.

With song styles ranging from the clarinet miroloi of northern Greece and the chocheci of the Serbian and Macedonian Roma (gypsies) to Turkish chalgi ensembles, Bulgarian wedding bands, and klezmer bands, the six-member ensemble has enthralled audiences on the dance floor, in the concert hall, and at the festival stage, blending spontaneity with a global sensibility to create a joyous Balkan extravaganza. LucidCulture.com calls Ansambl Mastika "one of New York's best bands in any style of music."

Ansambl Mastika features bandleader, composer and woodwind player Greg Squared; composer and trumpeter Ben Syversen; accordionist Matthew Fass; harmonica player Joey Weisenberg; bassist Reuben Radding; and percussionist Matt Moran.

The Jewish Museum is located at Fifth Avenue at 92nd Street, Manhattan. Tickets for the July 8 concert are $15 for the general public; $12 for students and seniors; and $10 for Jewish Museum members.
