Andrew Lloyd Webber's THE WIZARD OF OZ to Make North American Premiere in Toronto

As BroadwayWorld reported earlier today, Andrew Lloyd Webber's THE WIZARD OF OZ is slated to have its North American premiere in Toronto in early 2013.

After a UK nationally televised talent search in 2010, the show had its debut at the London Palladium in February 2011 headlining Danielle Hope, winner of BBC TV's 'Over the Rainbow,' as well as Michael Crawford (Professor Marvel/The Wizard of Oz), Edward Baker-Duly (Hickory/Tin Man), David Ganly (Zeke/Cowardly Lion), Paul Keating (Hunk/Scarecrow), Emily Tierney (Glinda), and Hannah Waddingham (Miss Gulch/Wicked Witch of the West) will be joined by:Sophie Evans (Alternate Dorothy), Stephen Scott (Uncle Henry/Ensemble, first cover Professor Marvel/The Wizard of Oz), and Helen Walsh (Aunt Em/Munchkin Barrister/Ensemble).

Hope and Crawford departed the show on February 5; Sophie Evans - the 'Over the Rainbow' runner-up - will play Dorothy beginning tomorrow and Russell Grant is set to take on the Wizard. Marianne Benedict has been playing the Wicked Witch/Miss Gulch since September 2011.

There's been no report as to casting for the new Toronto production, but it's to be produced by Mirvish Productions, at a theatre yet to be announced, in January and February 2013.

The show features direction by Jeremy Sams and choreography by Arlene Phillips, with music and lyrics by Harold Arlen and E Y Harburg as well as additional music and lyrics by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice and the set and costumes designed by Robert Jones. produced by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Bill Kenwright.
