The producers of Altar Boyz will hold open auditions in Chicago and Detroit to cast the upcoming Detroit Company of the critically-acclaimed Off-Broadway musical comedy.   Auditions will be held in Chicago on Friday, June 10th from 10 AM to 5 PM and in Detroit on Saturday, June 25th at Sidetrack from 1 PM to 6 PM and the Masonic Temple's Fountain Ballroom, respectively.

In addition to its numerous Drama Desk, Lucille Lortel, and Drama League nominations, Altar Boyz recently won the 2005 Outer Critics Circle Award for Best New Musical (Off-Broadway).  "Armed with catchy melodies, divine moves and product in their hair, Altar Boyz is the acclaimed and hilarious, holy-inspiring story of five small-town boys – Matthew, Mark, Luke, Juan and Abraham – trying to save the world one screaming fan at a time.  Altar Boyz is the new musical comedy where the apostles of pop bring their soul-soothing tour to your town, with their heavenly lyrics like 'Girl, You Make Me Wanna Wait,'" states a press article.

Altar Boyz will make its Detroit debut on September 6, 2005 at the City Theatre, as part of the 2005-2006 Fisher Playgoer Subscription Series.  Rehearsals begin August 8, 2005 in Detroit.

As the lead characters in Altar Boyz are all of the male gender, aspiring stars must be men, 20-30 years of age, excellent singers in the pop style similar to the musical group N'Sync, first-rate hip-hop dancers, and in great physical shape.  Auditionees will be asked to perform one pop up-tempo song and one pop ballad. Piano accompaniment will be provided but auditionees must bring sheet music written in their key.  A professional resume and photo is also required.  Auditions will be conducted by the show's director and musical theater casting associate.

Altar Boyz is directed by Stafford Arima and choreographed by Christopher Gattelli, with music and lyrics by Gary Adler and Michael Patrick Walker and a book by Kevin Del Aguila, based on a concept by Marc Kessler and Ken Davenport.  Detroit casting is by David Petro and Claire Simon in Chicago.

Sidetrack is located at 3349 N. Halstead St. in Chicago.  The Masonic Temple is located at 500 Temple Avenue in Detroit.

Submissions may also be sent to Claire Simon Casting, 1512 N. Fremont Street, Suite #202, Chicago Illinois 60622.
