Little Miss Sunshine star Alan Arkin, who plays Grandpa in the hit film, has just been announced as the winner of the Best Supporting Actor Oscar.

The other nominees were: Eddie Murphy (Dreamgirls), Djimon Honsou (Blood Diamond), Jackie Earle Haley (Little Children) and Mark Wahlberg (The Departed).

Arkin won a Tony for his performance in Enter Laughing and was nominated for his work in The Sunshine Boys.  Other Broadway credits include Taller Than a Dwarf, Molly, Luv and From the Second City, among others.  His many film credits include Thirteen Conversations About One Thing, America's Sweethearts, Slums of Beverly Hills, Grosse Point Blank, Glengarry Glen Ross, The In-Laws, The Last of the Red Hot Lovers, and Little Murders.

Little Miss Sunshine, directed by Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris, is written by Michael Arndt.  The comedy also stars Greg Kinnear, Toni Collette, Abigail Breslin and Steve Carrell.

The Oscars are currently being broadcast live on ABC from the Kodak Theatre in L.A.
