ANNIE To Be Presented for Cumberland Theatre 38th Season
Kinsley Tortora leads the cast as director Dennis Clark returns to Cumberland Theatre
The Cumberland Theatre will continue their 38th Season with the Tony Award-winning musical Annie opening April 30th and playing for three weekends. The show is being sponsored by Dawn's Family Practice and Timbrook Keyser.
Based on the popular comic strip by Harold Gray, Annie has become a worldwide phenomenon and was the winner of seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical. The beloved book and score by Tony Award winners, Thomas Meehan, Charles Strouse and Martin Charnin, features some of the greatest musical theatre hits ever written, including "Tomorrow."
With equal measures of pluck and positivity, little orphan Annie charms everyone's hearts despite a next-to-nothing start in 1930s New York City. She is determined to find the parents who abandoned her years ago on the doorstep of a New York City Orphanage that is run by the cruel, embittered Miss Hannigan. With the help of the other girls in the Orphanage, Annie escapes to the wondrous world of NYC. In adventure after fun-filled adventure, Annie foils Miss Hannigan's evil machinations... and even befriends President Franklin Delano Roosevelt! She finds a new home and family in billionaire, Oliver Warbucks, his personal secretary, Grace Farrell, and a lovable mutt named Sandy.
CT's upcoming rendition features both local and visiting actors and the return of guest director and choreographer Dennis Clark, who directed and choreographed this season's production of Heartbreak Hotel and last season's Jersey Boys.
Playing the role of Annie and making her CT debut will be Kinsley Tortora of Connecticut. Also appearing in principle roles are Nathan Wright (Daddy Warbucks), Savannah Tagliaferro (Grace), Kimberli Rowley (Miss Hannigan), Chris May (Rooster) and Lisa Podulka (Lily St. Regis).
Appearing as Annie's orphan friends will be Nola Logsdon (Duffy), Penny Bogart (Pepper), Emily Peterson (July), Madelyn Hook (Kate), Mackenzie Dunaway (Tessie) and Olive Wolford (Molly).
Grant Dombach, Emily Snyder, Dillon Nowatchik, Mikayla Dodge, Sasha Rosenbaum, Soren Corbett, Robbie Smith, Summer Schrecengost, Whitney O'Haver and Matthan Potts round out the cast in a bevy of supporting roles.
LeaAnn Alter serves as musical director with stage management by Marcus Hardinger assisted by Rowan Dickson. The design team for the show is comprised of Rhett Wolford (set and lighting design) and Jennifer Clark (costume design).
A preview performance will be held Thursday, April 30th at 8:00 pm. Following the preview, performances are May 1st - 17th with Friday and Saturday performances at 8:00 pm and Sundays at 2:00 pm.
