6th Annual Chalk Walk Comes to Round Rock This Weekend

The 6th Annual Chalk Walk and Arts Festival will be held in downtown Round Rock at - Centennial Park - this weekend, October 2 and 3.

The Round Rock Chalk Walk & Arts Festival is our community's largest and most prestigious festival for entertainment, arts and cultural events drawing over 32,000 people to Round Rock during the first weekend in October last year. Chalk Walk & Arts Festival offers visitors a chance to see a variety of chalk art, hear local music groups, watch theatrical performances, enjoy children's performances, interact with vendors and purchase good food and drinks.

Round Rock Arts is happy to announce that Community Impact Newspaper is now the event sponsor for Round Rock Chalk Walk and Arts Festival. The 2015 event is now Community Impact Newspaper Chalk Walk and Festival benefiting the Arts.

Last year the Chalk Walk had an economic impact of over $380,000 to the Round Rock community. The family-friendly event is FREE and open to the public, and will be host to an array of art activities for all ages, including musical performances on multiple stages, food vendors, area businesses, and artists.

Round Rock Arts' goal is to provide a celebration of entertainment. Art is the theme and chalk is the medium. Artists sign up to create works of art in the Centennial Plaza in Round Rock. From start to finish, these paintings are created in full view of the public, who are encouraged to interact with the artists as they use their amazing talents to create beautiful "murals' before the audience's eyes. The fact that the paintings disappear at the end of the festival makes their beauty even more appealing.

NEW THIS YEAR! "Asleep at the Wheel" will be our headliner for Friday night, 8:00 p.m., October 2, 2015 on the amphitheater stage at Centennial Plaza. Asleep at the Wheel has seen miles and miles of Texas. They got their kicks on Route 66. And, in 2010, the band clicked another milestone on the odometer - their 40th anniversary. Now in their 44th year, the band continues to introduce the western swing genre to a new generation on tour and takes audiences on the ride of a lifetime with their play, "A Ride with Bob." "It's been an amazing ride. From Paw Paw to San Francisco to Austin, we've seen it all," says Wheel front man Ray Benson. "But, rest assured, there is still so many exciting projects in the works. The Wheel keeps rolling!"

Professional fine artists will be creating their works before your eyes on the streets of downtown Round Rock that evening. You can also buy a square of asphalt for the weekend as an individual, family or just for your kids, and create your own masterpieces! Artists will start their artworks early on Friday morning along the streets of the festival grounds, so come stroll and interact with the artists, and eat from a great variety of foods prepared by local vendors and professional food trucks. Drink areas will be manned by the Round Rock YMCA with proceeds going to their organization and Round Rock Arts.

On Saturday, The Biscuit Brothers will be one of the featured artists on the main stage. The day's festivities will include chalk artists, local musicians on three stages, visual artists, crafters, food trucks, jugglers, pony rides, a petting zoo, a train, street performers, and special activity areas for children and families. There will also be a performance by Round Rock Ballet Folklorico and the Round Rock Community Choir.

Activities inside of the Allen R. Baca Center for Senior and Community Activities will feature an exhibit from the Public Library. The Round Rock Library will be partnering with Learning Fun 101 (LEGO Robotics Camps, Classes and Workshops). Exhibits will Included: 2 spin art stations; 2 LEGO Car Ramps; 2 Free Build area; 1 Free Build Duplo; 2 Battle Bot stations; 2 Top Spinner Stations; 1 Imagination station; 3 interactive Stations; and Big Hero 6 cos-play characters in attendance for pictures with kids.

Special activity partnerships this year will include the annual donut-eating contest with donuts provided by Round Rock Donuts. The Art Institute of Austin, as well as Round Rock ISD art, music, and dance departments will contribute arts-related programming
