London's prestigious Young Vic has announced its 2006-2007.  The new line-up of shows will inaugurate the company's reconstructed and expanded $23 million building.

The Main House season of the company--which specializes in showcasing young playwrights and actors--will begin with Tobias and the Angel, a revival of a "joyous, uplifting musical tale of hope and adventure" with music by Jonathan Dove and a libretto by Young Vic Artistic Director David Lan.  John Fulljames will direct the piece (which was first presented at the Almeida Opera in 1999).  Tobias and the Angel will begin performances on October 11th and run through the 21st.

The Enchanged Pig, again with music by Dove and a libretto by Alasdair Middleton, will be seen from Dec. 1st, 2006 – Jan. 27th, 2007.  A co-production with the Opera Group and directed by Fulljames, the show is based on a Romanian fairy tale about a princess whose husband turns out to be truly porcine.

Lan will direct the Thomas Otway's The Soldiers' Fortune from February 15th through March 31st.   The play is billed as a "hilariously modern restoration comedy."

Rufus Norris, who recently repeated his directing duties for Festen on Broadway and who is the Young Vic's Associate Director, will helm Vernon God Little from April 27th through June 9th.  Tanya Ronder adapted the play--described as "a darkly riotous, superbly fast-talking adventure"--from the Booker Prize-winning novel by DBC Pierre.

There will also be a celebration of Bertolt Brecht's plays on the Main House stage.  Two double bills of early Brecht pieces will be performed first from March 29th through April 14th and then from April 20th through May 5th.

The Maria stage--one of two new smaller theatres at the Young Vic--will play host to several new plays, as well.  Dennis Kelly's Love and Money, set in a "dislocated world of desire, debt and drastic measures," will run from November 16th through December 16th.  Debby Tucker Green's generations, in which South Africa's "hidden secret" is exploded by the playwright, will run from February 22nd through March 10th.
