Winners have been announced for the 2020 BroadwayWorld Anchorage Awards - which were back bigger than ever, celebrating the best in local theatre of the past decade!
It's the Alaska Native Scrooge you've never seen before! Tlingit and Dena'ina playwright Vera Starbard, known for the Peabody Award-winning children's animated program Molly of Denali and stage productions like last year's Devilfish has penned a modern take on the classic Dickens Christmas tale. After an extensive search, Perseverance Theatre is pleased to announce the hiring of Leslie Ishii for the role of Artistic Director. In three years, Perseverance Theatre playwright-in-residence Vera Starbard has developed legendary worlds in prehistoric Tlingit country, adapted Jane Austen for Alaska village life, and interviewed dynamic Alaska Native leaders for biographical stories. Through the generosity of The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, Perseverance Theatre will be continuing its partnership with Starbard for at least three more years. The Mellon Foundation has extended Starbard's National Playwright Residency Program with Perseverance through June 2022, administered in partnership with HowlRound.
Perseverance Theatre is happy to announce that Frank Delaney has joined the organization as the new managing director, and Leslie Ishii will serve as interim artistic director while the board conducts a search for a permanent leader for the role.
Perseverance Theatre announces that Art Rotch, who has served as the organization's Artistic Director since 2008, and first came to Juneau to work at Perseverance in 1988, will transition out of his role as Artistic Director this summer.
