This June, Tri-M Productions presents its fourth annual summer musical and thirteenth show overall in five years – Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine’s Tony-award winning masterpiece, “Into the Woods.” The musical intertwines the plots of several Brothers Grimm fairy tales, exploring the consequences of the characters' wishes and quests. The musical is tied together by a story involving a childless baker and his wife and their quest to begin a family, their interaction with a witch who has placed a curse on them, and encounters with other storybook characters during their journey. The story, written by James Lapine, follows the characters as they learn about growing up, parents and children, accepting responsibility, morality, and finally, wish fulfillment and its consequences. The show will be performed at the Santa Fe High School Performing Arts Center theater June 12th–22nd, Thursdays thru Saturdays at 7 PM with 2 PM Sunday matinees. Tickets are $56 and $34 (Student/Youth tickets are $20) and can be purchased at www.trimsantafe.org. Tri-M’s very own music director Kathlene Ritch, who has been behind the piano every show, will take to the Tri-M stage for the first time as The Witch. The cast also features Tri-M regulars Divara Harper as the Baker’s Wife, Jeremiah Vigil as Rapunzel’s Prince, and Alex Gallegos as The Mysterious Man as well as a host of new-to-Tri-M local talent. Christopher Niland will perform The Baker, Leah Mascarenas is Little Red, Nicholas Laemmer is The Wolf, Ashlyn Vigil is Cinderella, and Alex Kiefert is Jack. A variety of other familiar fairy tale characters are played by Matthew Desmith, Marika Sayers, Kay Gordon, Tim Jebsen, Cameron Wilson, Lisa K. Barnett, Will Varner, Johanna Nelson, Hayley Horowitz, Hannah Machado, Kat Bernhardt, Becca Jimenez and Lucy Felt. The musical is directed by artistic director Marilyn Barnes joined by assistant director Marina Lanuk, and choreographed by Laura Orozco Garrett, with costumes by Aubrey “Hicks” Pietrocci and music direction by Kathlene Ritch and Nate Salazar. Lighting and set design are by technical director Sarah LeBlanc, with Meena Reher-Kelkar as stage manager and Taylor Nelson as assistant stage manager.
