A Ride With Bob is a fascinating musical journey featuring the great nine-time Grammy winners Ray Benson and Asleep A Ride With Bob at the Spencer Theater in Ruidoso, NMAt The Wheel and a talented cast of actors and dancers. The high-energy trip fully celebrates Bob Wills’ indelible mark on American music, a tribute-like tale that spans Wills’ life (1905-1975), his career, his loves and his losses.

Revered for his musicianship and his 18-piece band The Texas Playboys, as well as his cowboy hollering and wisecracking while on stage, Wills was a true maverick whose spirit infused American popular music of the 20th century with a renegade, virtuosic flair. All is displayed in A Ride With Bob, which is woven around a biographical plot A Ride With Bob at the Spencer Theater, Ruidoso, NM.and the riveting talents of 25 performers (multiple fiddlers, guitars, bass, horns and dancers). The tale’s song-filled remembrances travel from Wills boyhood in the cotton fields into his being blackballed from radio to his first recording sessions, his struggles with fame in Hollywood and his many failed marriages. His music and his life story become one in performance of 15 of Wills immortal tunes like Faded Love, Take Me Back to Tulsa, Roly Poly and San Antonio Rose. Salting the musical bus ride are appearances of Elvis and Willie and Bing Crosby, as each gained fame, in part, through Wills’ songs.

Ray Benson’s Asleep at the Wheel has been in continuous performance for over 36 years, a virtual institution dedicated to keeping that distinctly American art form of western swing alive and kicking. Along the way they’ve won the praise and admiration from everyone from Willie Nelson to Bob Dylan, George Strait to Van Morrison.

Sponsored in part by the Hubbard Foundation and the Chevron Corporation, A Ride With Bob – which was written by Ray Benson and Anne Rapp -- tips a big, white, cowboy hat to the legendary Wills, the all-time hero of Texas Swing.

Located in South-Central New Mexico, Ruidoso, is a cool mountain-resort community and the summer playground of many West Texas residents.
