SPRING AWAKENING Will Come to Musical Theatre Southwest in June
The musical features Noah Smith and Kimberly Jurgens in lead roles.
Musical Theatre Southwest will continue its 2026 season with Spring Awakening, running June 5-28, 2026, in Albuquerque.
Winner of eight Tony Awards, including Best Musical, Spring Awakening features music by Duncan Sheik and book and lyrics by Steven Sater. Set in late 19th-century Germany, the production follows a group of teenagers struggling with identity, sexuality, repression, and the transition into adulthood. Through its acclaimed folk-rock score and emotionally raw storytelling, the musical continues to resonate strongly with contemporary audiences.
This new production is directed by Robb Sisneros, with choreography by Donielle Torres, music direction by Mary Brzezinski, and stage management by Liz Rincon.
The cast features Noah Smith as Melchior, Kimberly Jurgens as Wendla, Lennon Vossen as Moritz, Kristina Padilla as Martha, Kyra Sprague as Ilse, Jacob Chavez as Hänchen, Leo Castillo as Ernst, Xavier Lopez as Georg, Jesi Rocetes as Otto, Raegan White as Thea, Sara Dunston as Anna, Virginia Spotts as Adult Woman, Jim Williams as Adult Male.
Known for songs including "Mama Who Bore Me," "Touch Me," "The Bitch of Living," and "Totally Fucked," Spring Awakening has become one of the defining musicals of the 21st century, celebrated for its emotional honesty, innovative score, and fearless exploration of themes that remain deeply relevant today.
