'THE SOUND OF MUSIC' has announced it will be closing on February 21, 2009. The Andrew Lloyd Webber production will be on national tour with Connie Fisher playing the role of Maria. She was the original casting for this role.

The Sound of Music first opened at the Palladium on November 15 2006, after a televised casting hunt. The production, 'How do You Solve a Problem Like Maria,' was run by Lloyd Webber. The aim of the show was to find an actress for the leading role.

This current revival is directed by Jeremy Sams. It is designed by Robert Jones, with choreography by Arlene Phillips, sound by Mick Potter, lighting by Mark Henderson and musical supervision by Simon Lee. The show is presented by Live Nation, the Really Useful Group, Andrew Lloyd Webber and David Ian.

The production, won the 2007 Whatsonstage.com Award for Best Musical Revival. It currently stars Summer Strallen as Maria, Simon MacCorkindale as Captain von Trapp and Margaret Preece as The Mother Abbess.

The original Rodgers and Hammerstein musical opened on Broadway in 1959; it won six Tony Awards, including Best Musical. The 1965 Hollywood movie starred Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer. It won five Oscars including Best Picture. The show opened in London in 1961, with its last London revival in 1981. Both productions had record-breaking runs.

The premiere of 'SISTER ACT' will follow 'THE SOUND OF MUSIC' at the Palladium. 'SISTER ACT' will open June 2, 2009. The show is being coproduced by Whoopi Goldberg and Stage Entertainment.
