Joe McElderry speaks to BWW ahead of his pantomime run at Wolverhampton Grand Theatre.

Which panto are you doing and what part will you be playing?

I'm playing Aladdin at the Grand Theatre in Wolverhampton.

What's the best thing about performing in pantomime?

The variety - with all the singing, dancing and comedy - but also the audiences are wonderful and are always having a great time. Panto is a great way to connect with the audience.

Why do you think pantomime is so loved in the UK?

Panto is a British institution, and is usually a child's first introduction to live theatre - panto is a magical experience for them.

Have you had any onstage disasters during a show?

Yes, my trousers split once and it was very embarrassing!

Do you have any special memories of going to the panto yourself as a child?

From being a kid, I was always obsessed with going to panto and always wanted to be a part of it.

Ticket information for Aladdin is available on the Wolverhampton Grand website.
