The Rainbow Theatre Project is back to kick off the second-half of its sophomore season with the next installment of its successful Generation Q Staged Reading Series: Bryna Turner's How to Separate Your Soul from Your Body (in ten easy steps) and Steven Korbar's short play, A Quick Stop at the Florist. The reading takes place Monday, February 9, 2015 at 7:30 p.m. at Source in Washington, D.C.

To start the evening, the simple act of picking up wedding flowers turns into a verbal confrontation between two straight women over gay marriage in Steven Kobar's A Quick Stop at the Florist. The short-piece will be directed by RTP's Assistant to the Artistic Director, David A. Richardson (Swamp Gothic, 2014), and features local actresses Jacqui Brown as Rochelle and Samantha Jeffrey as Loretta. Both performers are new to RTP, but Brown is no stranger to the role, having performed it in the 2013 DC Queer Festival.

For the main event, How to Separate Your Soul... is a metaphysical comedy from Brooklyn-based playwright Bryna Turner about what it means to love, to learn and to fall apart. While Ramona is off being seduced, literally and figuratively, by the academic lures of her Master's program, her partner Petra, an agoraphobic how-to blogger, begins an existential journey of her own with the help of a strange identity on the Internet. The piece was originally produced as part of The Playwrights Festival of New Plays at Rutgers University. Turner is the recipient of the Genevieve Schmich award for dramatic excellence, the Jerry Juhl award for potential in the dramatic arts and the Millicent Allen Lyric Poetry Prize.

Jay D. Brock, Assistant Professor of Acting and Directing at the Benjamin T. Rome School of Music at Catholic University, makes his RTP debut directing How to Separate Your Soul...: "I love the humorous exploration of how identity is modified and codified through relationships even though we are unaware of the process. I think the play will provide a reflection for us question how little or how much we are willing to let go to achieve relational symbiosis." Brock has extensive regional directing credits including work with Imagination Stage, Theater J, Molotov Theatre Group and the Washington Savoyards.

Emily Kester (Studio Theatre, Rorschach Theatre) and Briana Manente (WSC Avant Bard, Annapolis Shakespeare Company) will perform the roles of troubled lovers Ramona and Petra, respectively, with Elizabeth Darby (Molotov Theatre Group, Pallas Theatre Collective), Alex Zavistovich (Molotov Theatre Group, Studio Theatre) and Mary Tucker (Rainbow Theatre Project) rounding out the rest of the cast.

How to Separate Your Soul... with A Quick Stop at the Florist will be held at Source, located at 1835 14th Street, NW in Washington, D.C. The venue is approximately 2 blocks from the U Street/Cardozo Metro Station. Street Parking is also available.
