THE GAME:

Cirque Dreams: Jungle Fantasy commercials tout the extravaganza as part circus, part safari, part vaudeville and part Broadway musical.  Below are ten questions about Broadway musicals that are about the circus, safari animals and vaudeville.  Good luck!

  1. This recent musical concerns a young British girl explorer trying to find new species of flora and fauna.  She is…
    1. Jane in Mary Poppins
    2. Jane in Tarzan
    3. Flora in Flora, the Red Menace
    4. Bambi in Curtains

  1. That same musical featured gorillas swinging on bungee cord vines.  All of the following appear in that show EXCEPT:
    1. A jaguar
    2. A spider
    3. An orangutan
    4. A giant moth

  1. Another current Broadway musical, The Lion King, features a wide variety of safari animals.  What kind of animals are Timon and Pumbaa, respectively?
    1. A meerkat and guinea pig
    2. A meerkat and a warthog
    3. A lion cub and warthog
    4. A prairie dog and a warthog

  1. Scar, the villain in The Lion King, uses a pack of what kind of animal to take over the Pride Lands?
    1. Mules
    2. Wolves
    3. Camels
    4. Hyenas

  1. All of the following musicals include vaudeville styled scenes, EXCEPT:
    1. Barnum
    2. Chicago
    3. Gypsy
    4. The Will Rogers Follies

  1. One of the conventions of vaudeville/burlesque numbers is a dance routine that features large feather fans.  All of the following musicals feature such a number, EXCEPT:
    1. Xanadu
    2. Chicago
    3. The Will Rogers Follies
    4. The Producers

  1. Barnum, the musical about the life of circus master P.T. Barnum, featured all of the following circus acts, EXCEPT:
    1. A tightrope walk
    2. A tiny car full of clowns
    3. Tom Thumb
    4. Jumbo the elephant

  1. Side Show, a musical about the fantastic "freaks" of a circus side show, has as its central character:
    1. Siamese twins
    2. A bearded lady
    3. A chicken blood-drinking geek
    4. A fortune teller

  1. Another musical about a circus carnival, Carnival!, features as its central act:
    1. A strong man
    2. A fire eater
    3. A marionette act
    4. A ventriloquist - I accepted this one if entrants put "puppets" with it.  Apparently, productions of this show use either marionettes or puppets.

  1. Modern circuses feature aerialists who climb and swing on large swatches of fabric hanging from the ceiling by intertwining the cloth with their arms and legs.  Broadway star Jane Krakowski made her entrance in a musical on just such a contraption.  That show was:
    1. Nine
    2. Grand Hotel
    3. Starlight Express
    4. Guys and Dolls

REMEMBER!

  • You MUST attempt all 10 questions.
  • Your answers MUST include both the letter AND the answer.
  • You MUST title your entry Cirque Dreams Contest.
  • Your entry MUST be received by noon on Saturday, January 19.
  • Entries that do not meet all of the guidelines will NOT be entered.
