The Orpheum Theatre Group has announced that the annual Orpheum High School Musical Theatre Awards (HSMTA) will take place on Thursday, May 23 at 7pm at the Orpheum Theatre. Performer, composer, lyricist and writer Larry Owens will present the world premiere concert debut of his new musical, The American Football Musical, a satire of The Blind Side-esque sports/white savior films, at Adelphi University Performing Arts Center (PAC) on Saturday, April 27.

We spoke to Caroliene Huerta on appearing in the regional premiere of STRANGER SINGS! The Parody Musical.  STRANGER SINGS! is a hilarious “upside down” take on the hit Netflix series - and all its campy 1980s glory.

Based on the 1980 film starring Olivia Newton-John and, before that, the Rita Hayworth film, Down To Earth, this lively adaptation never takes itself too seriously. From start to finish the ensemble prances, preens, and mugs it up, giving audiences a sugary sweet over the top show filled with kinetic dancing, wonderful singing and plenty of toe tapping melodies.

Stranger Sings! is a musical parody based on the adventures of some unlikely heroes set in the 1980’s in Hawkins, Indiana. Created in part to celebrate the fandom surrounding the Netflix behemoth, Stranger Things super fans Jonathan Hogue and Nick Flatto, whereas Flatto also serves as producer-director of the show.
