BECKY SHAW to Open 9/20 at Theatre Artists Studio
Who's stalking whom? That's a matter of opinion for the characters in Becky Shaw, and those opinions shift madly as the story unfolds.
In Gina Gionfriddo's dark comedy, Becky Shaw, a newly married couple tries to make a match between two of their emotionally challenged friends. When wife's best friend agrees to meet husband's odd and sexy new co-worker, an evening calculated to bring happiness takes a dark turn, resulting in a hilarious spiral of self-distortion as the characters come face to face with their own deficiencies.
Poking fun at family dysfunction, marital fidelity and sexual manipulation, this wickedly funny play questions our moral footing as it travels through each of its sharp twists and cynical turns. What do we owe to the people we love, and to the strangers who land on our doorstep?
"We know people like this. We are people like this," says director Dominik Rebilas. "The play begs us to question our own ethical connection to a tangled and deviously damaged world."
Directed by Dominik Rebilas, Becky Shaw features the talents of Studio members Patti Davis Suarez, Lesley Ariel Tutnick, Shana Rebilas Bousard and Dominik Rebilas, along with Brian Sweis.
Becky Shaw runs September 20 through October 6 at The Studio, with performances on Friday and Saturday nights at 7:30 pm and Sundays at 2:00 pm. This production is being presented under the auspices of the Actors' Equity Association Members Project Code.
Tickets are $20 General Admission, $10 for students age 25 and under and $15 for groups of 10 or more, seniors age 65 and over and members of the military (both active and retired).
