The Ordway Center for the Performing Arts will welcome TAIKOPROJECT for a one-night-only performance tonight, April 23, at 7:30 p.m. The show is a part of the Ordway's World Music and Dance Series, sponsored by Target.

Tickets start at $23 and can be purchased online at www.ordway.org, by phone at 651-224-4222 or in person at the Ordway ticket office.

Founded in 2000 in Los Angeles by a group of young artists, TAIKOPROJECT is one of the world's premiere taiko drumming ensembles. The group balances the Japanese traditions of taiko drumming with a fresh, contemporary approach to create a uniquely American style. TAIKOPROJECT first made waves in 2005 when they became the first American taiko group to win the prestigious Tokyo International Taiko Contest. They have since performed and recorded with some of the world's most well-known musical artists, including Stevie Wonder, Usher, Alicia Keys, John Legend and Kanye West.

"What I love about TAIKOPROJECT is the joy and humor they infuse into each of their performances," said Dayna Martinez, Ordway's artistic director of World Music & Dance. "From powerful music to choreography inspired by the Japanese martial arts, their work is an homage to the traditions of taiko while also mixing in unconventional elements to show new dimensions. An evening with TAIKOPROJECT is truly an exuberant, all-encompassing experience."
