Slightly Askew Theatre Ensemble (SATE) will produce Heiner Muller's Hamletmachine from June 9-26 at 7:30PM, Wednesdays through Saturdays, at ArtDimensions Gallery: 2720 Cherokee.

The plays of Heiner Muller are as dense as they are brief - shell fragments fired into our collective psyche. What Muller does is boil down a universally recognizable story to its skeleton. Of his vast body of work, Hamletmachine is probably Muller's most recognizable, and possibly the least accessible. Slightly Askew Theatre Ensemble will transform Muller's dark text into a media circus that both celebrates and challenges traditional theatre forms, using the best elements of pop culture to take the mystique out of the text, and make it accessible. The spectator may recognize the farce behind the so-called despair of the intellectual: Hamlet is a clown; Ophelia is a Lady Gaga.

The performing ensemble includes Adam Elkana-Hale, Johanna Elkana-Hale, William Rauch*, Rachel Tibbetts and Kimberly C. Weller. The production is directed by Ellie Schweyte and choreographed by Sarajane Alverson. The stage manager is Erin Roberts. Lighting Design by Amae Kurre.

Hamletmachine is presented in partnership with ArtDimensions' Flax Gallery "Large and Still In Charge" exhibition. The Flax Gallery is a concept gallery which celebrates women in the arts. All artwork will be by or about women and exceed 4 feet in either dimension.

SATE's production of Hamletmachine is being produced in conjunction with Gateway to Shakespeare sponsored by Shakespeare Festival of St. Louis. Gateway to Shakespeare is a consortium of Shakespeare related performances and events that will encourage the St. Louis community to become aware of how much Shakespeare is a part of the artistic fabric of our lives and to see and enjoy as much Shakespeare around town as possible.

Tickets are $15 per person and can be purchased with cash, check or at Brown Paper Tickets. Please call (314) 827-5760, email marketing@slightlyoff.org or visit the SATE website at slightlyoff.org for more information.
