Extra Fun for Everyone! Washington Pavilion Holds Super 2nd Today

On February 11, the next Super 2nd Saturday is happening from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. On the secondSaturday of each month, our Visual Arts and Kirby Science Discovery Centers now feature new, educational and interactive experiences designed to engage people in hands-on and minds-on themed activities, demonstrations and projects above and beyond our everyday programming.

VISUAL ARTS CENTER EXPERIENCES

Learn about printmaking at the Visual Arts Center! Visitors of all ages are invited to join us for a special Printmaking Demo with artist Chad Nelson and the Brandon Valley High School Art Club. Then, visit our new exhibition of local printmaker and art collector Carl Grupp's work and collection, Carl Grupp: Artist and Collector.

In the Raven Children's Studio, join us for Storytime and an art project. Using our special stencils, make a leaf rubbing masterpiece, and enjoy a little bit of spring in the middle of winter. Then, visit our exhibition Elsewhere and Here by Ceca Cooper, featuring art inspired by nature.

KIRBY SCIENCE DISCOVERY CENTER EXPERIENCES

Discover the world of engineering when we feature special presenters and hands-on activities where you can experience why engineering is so important in our world. Visit the Engineering Lab on 3rd floor to explore activities with South Dakota Engineering Society and Southeast Technical Institute or head up to the 4th floor for an engineering challenge!

DEMONSTRATIONS

11:15 a.m. and 1:15 p.m.

Engineering our World: 3rd floor Stage Science Learn how simple machines inspired Leonardo da Vinci's experiments and futuristic inventions.

ACTIVITIES

Engineering Lab: 3rd floor next to Stage Science

· Paper Rollercoaster: Design a rollercoaster using only recyclable items like paper.

· Imagination Playground: Complete a challenge on 4th floor using our new blue blocks to create life-size creatures and robots.

GUEST PRESENTERS

· South Dakota Engineering Society: Work through a water tower challenge with local Civil Engineers.

· Southeast Technical Institute: Learn how surveyors make maps for their projects from Civil Engineering Technology and Land Surveying Science program students.

WELLS FARGO CINEDOME EXPERIENCES

· Journey to Space 10 a.m. & 12 p.m.

· Incredible Predators 11 a.m.

· Extreme Weather 1 p.m. & 4 p.m.

· Moana** 1:45 p.m.

**$3 youth and $5 adults admission to the Hollywood film in the Wells Fargo CineDome can be purchased at the Box Office in the main floor lobby or at the Discovery Store on the second floor.

Super 2nd Saturday activities are included with regular admission fees. As always, admission is free for members. Those who aren't members can visit the box office on Super 2nd Saturdays and receive 20% off membership and apply that day's admission fees toward an annual membership.

In 2017, the remaining dates for Super 2nd Saturdays are March 11, April 8, May 13, June 10, July 8, August 12, September 9,October 14, November 11 and December 9.

The Washington Pavilion is the region's home for the arts, entertainment and science.
