Motown the Musical Photos - US Tour

Chicago Shakespeare Theater has released rehearsal images from the highly anticipated world premiere of The Notebook, a new musical based on the bestselling novel by Nicholas Sparks that inspired the iconic film.

TINA – THE TINA TURNER MUSICAL today released rehearsal images for the new Company.  From 29 June 2022 Aisha Jawando and new cast member Elesha Paul Moses will share the role of Tina, with Caleb Roberts joining to play Ike. Check out photos here!

The online concert premiere of the new musical Sticks & Stones officially took place on October 16, 2020.

Leading off the cast is Salome B. Smith in the role of 'Dorothy'. Smith is a recent graduate of Alabama State University where she performed in many theatrical productions including The Color Purple, Rent and Carousel. Marva Hicks is playing the role of 'The Wiz'. Hicks has appeared on Broadway in Motown The Musical, Caroline or Change, and The Lion King. Yvette Clark will play the roles of 'Evilene', 'Glinda', and 'Aunt Em'. Clark has appeared in numerous regional productions including Thoroughly Modern Millie, Showboat, Chicago, and Hairspray. Simone Gundy will play the role of 'Addaperle'. Gundy returns to TUTS after starring in the 2017 production of Memphis. Paris Nix is playing 'Tin Man'. Nix was last seen on Broadway in Beautiful: The Carole King Musical. Allyson Kaye Daniel is 'Lion'. Daniel most recently appeared at TUTS as 'Miss Jones' in How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. Her other credits include Newsies, Ghost, and We Will Rock You. Christopher Campbell, who just appeared in the TUTS production of Oklahoma! as Will Parker, will play the role of Scarecrow

Portland Center Stage at The Armory's 2018-2019 season launches with the Tony Award-winning musical The Color Purple, adapted from Alice Walker's classic novel about the sisterhood, resilience and self-empowerment found in a community of black women living in rural Georgia in the early 20th century. The Color Purple begins preview performances on September 15, opens on September 21, and runs through October 28 on the U.S. Bank Main Stage. Timothy Douglas directs the production, joined by music director Darius Smith, who will bring the Grammy Award-winning score to life.

Andy Coxon plays the iconic role of Berger in the new 50th anniversary production of HAIR. The rock musical HAIR opened at London's fully immersive Off-West-End theatre, The Vaults, from Wednesday 4 October 2017 and is now to run to Saturday 13 January 2018 (Press Night Wednesday 11 October 2017 at 7.30pm & 50th Anniversary Gala Tuesday 17 October at 7.30pm). Hackney Empire today announces casting for its highly anticipated 2017 Christmas pantomime, Cinderella, having last been staged at the venue in 2011. Established West End performer Aisha Jawando (Motown the Musical, Beautiful) will be stepping into the glass slippers of the title role. The rock musical HAIR opens at London's fully immersive Off-West-End theatre, The Vaults, from Wednesday 4 October 2017 and is now to run to Saturday 13 January 2018.  Last night (21 August 2017) the legendary British athlete Mo Farah met with the West End cast of Motown the Musical having watched the hit show at the Shaftesbury Theatre.  He met with the full company of actors including Cedric Neal who plays Berry Gordy (found of the iconic record label), Lucy St Louis who plays Diana Ross and Raphael Higgins-Humes who plays Young Michael Jackson. 

Although I never watched their program, I do remember that Jim and Tammy Faye Bakker were wildly known almost as much for their outrageous personalities and sartorial style as their devotion to preaching the gospel of Jesus. It is easy to see why the pair became an unlikely surrogate family for the two teenagers from Detroit raised on that same belief, as they rapidly became the hottest stars in televangical America. But for the naive siblings, especially BeBe, it's not an easy lesson learning how to reconcile the temptations of fame and fortune with the things he ultimately values more. It's a wildy funny yet emotional journey toward self-discovery, told with great music and outstanding performances by siblings Juan Winans and Deborah Joy Winans (the children of Carvin Winans, Sr. and Deborah Winans) who portray their aunt CeCe and uncle BeBe with the utmost respect, magical stage presence, and the most amazing vocal pipes!

The Movement Theatre Company, a Harlem-based nonprofit committed to showcasing emerging artists of color, opened their production of And She Would Stand Like This by Harrison David Rivers, directed by David Mendizabal, choreographed by Kia LaBeija on July 23rd. The show continues its run until August 6, 2017 at the new A.R.T./NY Theatres in the Mezzanine Theatre, located at 502 West 53rd Street and 10th Avenue.

Last night (15 June 2017) at the Shaftesbury Theatre Jackie and Tito Jackson surprised the audience as they joined the cast of Motown the Musical after a performance of the West End hit production.

"Forever Plaid "is an escapist evening of theater, which is a pleasant trip back to yesterday, when clean-scrubbed boy singers waxed beautifully about the angst of young love, trips of fantasy and the mini-stresses of life. If you like that kind of thing, this is a show for you.

It was quite an evening March 4, 2017 when THE BROADWAY BOYS performed a benefit performance at the Gordon Center for the Performing Arts at Baltimore, Maryland's Jewish Community Center.

The U.S. National tour of the hit musical, THE BODYGUARD, launched on Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2017 at the historic Orpheum Theatre in Minneapolis as part of Hennepin Theatre Trust's 2016-2017 Bank of America Broadway on Hennepin Season.

Tommy Mottola, the Dodgers, Tribeca Productions, and Evamere Entertainment just announced that the Original Broadway Cast Album of A Bronx Tale was recorded in New York City today, January 9. Last night (19 October 2016), Duke Fakir, the last remaining original member of legendary Motown group The Four Tops, attended the performance of Motown the Musical at the Shaftesbury Theatre and joined the West End cast on stage for the finale when he and the company received a standing ovation from the sell-out audience.
