BWW Review: THE 1940'S RADIO HOUR at The Players Centre For Performing Arts
by Carolan Trbovich - Dec 17, 2017

Playing through December 23 at The Players Centre is The 1940's Radio Hour, A Prairie Home Companion-type production that takes us back to the good ole days of radio, where voices and sound effects allowed your mind to wander and create a world only you could envision. Although film and television have taken that away from us and replaced it with stunning visual effects, I still like to listen to the old radio shows, especially the mysteries. This production makes you feel comfy cozy as if you were home listening, all warm and bundled up, while it snows outside.

BWW Review: Raise a Glass High to Monomoy's JOHNNY ON A SPOT
by Kristen Morale - Aug 25, 2016

Have you ever been high on what life is and all it throws at you - to become charged by the excitement and wonder of it all, followed by the mayhem, the confusion and the constant need to keep up with the bundles of mess that almost seem too perfectly destined to fall right in your lap? Have you ever dealt with the absurdly funny truth of a unrestrained drunkard of a Senate-hopeful gone missing on the day he is meant to win over the votes of all who believe he is the perfect man for the job? Probably not, which makes it all the funnier to watch how such a wacky plot, saturated with a conservatively (hah) witty sense of humor circling around an almost irresolvable bunch of problems, has now come to the Monomoy Theatre in the form of Johnny on a Spot.

Review - Johnny On A Spot: MacArthur Lark
by Kristin Salaky - Sep 10, 2008

Dan Wackerman, Artistic Director and frequent stage director for the Peccadillo Theatre Company, has regularly displayed a golden touch for mounting crackling revivals of long-forgotten Broadway plays like Elmer Rice's Counsellor-at-Law, Dorothy Parker and Arnaud d'Usseau's The Ladies of the Corridor and, in an absolutely hilarious mounting, John Murray and Alan Boretz's Room Service. But with Charles MacArthur's 1942 political screwball farce, Johnny On A Spot, he and his Peccadillo cohorts attempt their toughest feat of alchemy yet in belief that this 4-performance Broadway flop was an unfortunate victim of the public's squelched taste for satire a mere month after the attack on Pearl Harbor.
