This summer INDEPENDENT SHAKESPEARE CO. presents an imaginative production of Shakespeare's final play, THE TEMPEST, featuring Thom Rivera as Prospero and directed by Matthew Earnest. THE TEMPEST will begin previews at THE GRIFFITH PARK FREE SHAKESPEARE FESTIVAL on Saturday, July 30 at 7pm and will open on Saturday, August 6 at 7:00pm and perform through Sunday, September 4 at the Old Zoo in Griffith Park. All ISC Summer Shakespeare productions are FREE to the public! THE TEMPEST is the second of two productions being presented at this year's GRIFFITH PARK FREE SHAKESPEARE FESTIVAL. State of the Art's Production Theater Company presents the award winning Broadway musical 'The 1940's Radio Hour,' by Walton Jones. 'The 1940's Radio Hour' is full of music, dancing, live commercials and old-time sound effects. Centered around a troupe of radio performers, 'The 1940's Radio Hour' presents the final holiday broadcast of the Mutual Manhattan Variety Cavalcade on the New York radio station WOV in December 1942. One part 'A Prairie Home Companion,' and one part USO SHOW, 'The 1940's Radio Hour,' promises to be a fun-filled evening of musical comedy featuring time honored classics, like, 'Love Is Here To Stay,' 'That Old Black Magic,' 'Blues In The Night,' 'The 5 O'Clock Whistle,' and many more!!
The Lakewood Playhouse presents the fourth show of its 77th season, its debut presentation of the American classic DEATH OF A SALESMAN by Arthur Miller, running tomorrow, February 19th, through March 13th, 2016. As traveling salesman Willy Loman's fears of failure envelope him, his wife Linda's unwavering love and support never falter, even as the disillusionment of their sons Happy and Biff send the family into an emotional tailspin. As Willy sinks deeper into schizophrenia, his ongoing delusions and hallucinations about the past make it increasing difficult for him to function in his stressful reality. Taking what he thinks is the easy way out since he believes he is worth more dead than alive, Willy falls deeper into overwhelming depression from which there is no escape.
