/>Cynthia Nixon/> hosted The American Theatre Wing and the League of American Theatres and Producers' presentation of the 2006 Tony Honors for Excellence. Presenters included Tony-winners />Angela Lansbury/>, Manny Azenberg, />Andre DeShields/>, />Lynn Ahrens/> and />Stephen Flaherty/>. The event took place at Tavern on the Green at October 24th.
The Tony Honors were presented to BMI Lehman Engel Musical Theatre Workshop; Forbidden Broadway and its creator, Gerard Alessandrini; Samuel (Biff) Liff, Senior Vice President of the William Morris Agency and Ellen Stewart, Founder/Director of La MaMa E.T.C, this year.
Established in 1990, The Tony Honors for Excellence in the Theatre are awarded annually by the Tony Administration Committee to institutions, individuals and/or organizations that have demonstrated extraordinary achievement in theatre, but are not eligible in any of the established Tony Award® categories.
